Out of Left Field:THE COUNTDOWN IS FINALLY OVER! A Historic Opening Day

THE COUNTDOWN IS FINALLY OVER! At long last baseball season is here and Opening Day 2017 didn’t disappoint in terms of drama and historic moments. Masahiro Tanaka was just plain off, getting crushed by a Rays team that seemed to have the Yankees’ number; Clayton Kershaw continues his domination, sitting down 19 consecutive batters in leading the Dodgers to a second straight double-digit Opening Day blowout of the Padres; Madison Bumgarner sits the first 16 batters he faces before running into trouble in the 6th inning, but he sets a MLB record as the first pitcher to ever blast TWO homeruns on Opening Day; and the Cubbies get into a pitchout with the Cardinals that suddenly turns into a shootout, with both teams blasting two-run shots late and the Cards walk-off against Montgomery. Are Montgomery and Melancon’s issues just a bad day? Or are they indicative of something that could hurt their respective clubs? Plus, more injuries. We get to all of it and Chris’ personal Opening Day experiences this week, on Out of Left Field.
