On Friday, November the 18th Xavier Women’s basketball team improved to 2-0 with their victory over SE Missouri. More important, then that was the crowd. Approximately 2,000-3,000 elementary students got the chance to set foot on a college campus. The event educated, enlighten, and empowered the students. Prior to the game, the event had an educational component. I would go into more detail, unfortunately, I missed my alarm clock. It enlightens them to the fact that Women are athletes worthy of the student’s admiration and respect just the same as the male athletes. It empowered them to consider a better future, a brighter future, a future that included a college education.
Following the game, I had the chance to speak with Junior Guard Marquia Turner and Coach Christian Stefanopoulos. We spoke about the games impact on the community, how the game creates future fans, and the positive impact the fans have on the players.
