1) Alabama never rebuilds
The Tide under Nick Saban are never in rebuild mode no matter how many great players they lose. They lost a ton last year, but Saturday proved that as of right now, they are the best team in college football. There are concerns on the offensive side of the ball, but rest assured, they will get the kinks worked out and be fine. If not, the defense and special teams may be enough to get them to the playoffs anyway.
2) LSU is a serious contender in the SEC
The Tigers are big and physical up front and possess the talent to upend Alabama. The Tiger defense totally outclassed a solid BYU offense that more was expected of in this game.
3) Kevin Sumlin will be fired, and he deserves to be fired
For almost three complete quarters the Aggies totally took apart the UCLA Bruins taking a 44-10 lead. Then Sumlin coached maybe the worst quarter of college football anyone has ever seen. The Aggies constantly snapped the ball with more than 10 seconds left on the play clock over the last 20 minutes of the game and even snapped the ball around the 20 second mark a few times! Sumlin was under fire before this game but after this debacle, his firing will be just a matter of time.
4) The Howard Bison pull the greatest upset ever
At least by Vegas odds-makers, Howard’s upset of UNLV was epic! The Bison were 45 point underdogs going into the game and came up with a 43-40 upset win that shocked the College Football world.
5) Lamar Jackson is a great College QB
A lot of people have written off last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, but his performance against Purdue says maybe they shouldn’t have. Jackson accounted for almost 500 total yards in the Cardinals tougher-than-expected win.
6) Josh Rosen has been underrated
Rosen’s love of football and his heart have been questioned by the so called “experts”, but they should all be silent after Sunday night’s amazing comeback.
7) Baylor gets taken down by Liberty
Liberty upset the Baylor Bears Saturday and the upset couldn’t have happened to a better team. After the Baylor scandal (which should have led to the death penalty), it was nice to watch Liberty take it to the Bears.
8) Clemson lost DeShaun Watson and it may not matter after all
New quarterback Kelly Bryant stepped in and the Tigers do not seem to be missing a beat. I know the competition level wasn’t great, but Bryant looks to be the real deal.
9) USC had the top moment of the week
USC sent blind long snapper Jake Olson out to assist with an extra point during a win over Western Michigan. The move fulfilled a lifelong dream for Olson, who lost his sight to cancer when he was 12 years old.
