Penn State (7-0) at Ohio State (6-1) Game Preview
Broadcast, TV, Game Time
Date: Saturday, October 28th
Game Time: 3:30 pm ET
Venue: Ohio Stadium, Columbus
The game of the year in the Big Ten will take place at Ohio Stadium as the undefeated Nittany Lions will invade the state of Ohio with one of the best defenses in all of College Football. The Buckeyes will counter with a team that has been on a roll since a blowout loss to Oklahoma at the start of the season.
The only problem with the Buckeyes’ recent run has been the competition they have faced, so there are still a lot of questions for the Buckeyes to answer. Penn State answered some questions in a dominating performance last week against Michigan, but the Nittany Lions schedule has not been very difficult so far either. So let’s look at some of the keys of this game?
Can Ohio State throw the ball against Penn State?
Penn State no question has a great run defense, but when the question of pass defense comes up we really don’t know how good this team is. The Lions haven’t played a team with a legit passing threat yet, but Ohio State with a veteran Quarterback do pose that very threat to Penn State, they can throw the ball.
I think Penn State can handle the Buckeyes passing game though as the Buckeyes wide receivers are not good at getting separation and J.T. Barrett is not the kind of Quarterback to throw them open. If the Buckeyes can’t light up the airways winning this game could be next to impossible for them.
How does Ohio State deal with Saquon Barkley?
The Buckeyes are going to gang up to stop Barkley – if Northwestern can do it, for the most part, and if Indiana can stuff him, Ohio State’s defensive front can – but Trace McSorley has become the real killer.
And their lies the problem with beating Penn State, you can put eight guys in the box to stop Barkley only to have Penn State Quarterback Trace McSorley light you up and that is why the Lions are a legit National contender. Plus, McSorley is a much better quarterback than he was last year when he was just 8-23 passing in the Nittany Lions 24-21 win at Penn State.
No matter the recent competition Ohio State has improved. They’ve simplified things a bit offensively, the offensive line has started playing better, and the team seems to be in the right groove at the right time. I think this game is a tossup, nut in the end I will lean towards the team that has Barkley and McSorley.
Prediction: Penn State 27, Ohio State 24
