Week 16 got off to an eventful start with the Toronto Argonauts announcing the release of “The Big Three”:

Oh, they got rid of Phil Bates, too…

Scott Milanovich promised that the team would make changes and cut bait with any players that weren’t “buying in”. He wasn’t kidding.

But what does this mean for fantasy?

Most teams would not be able to get away with releasing three quality receivers but I actually think the Argonauts will be fine. Kenny Shaw, Diontae Spence, and Brandon Whitaker are quality talents and will be worth even more in the final few weeks of the regular season. Andre Durie and Anthony Coombs should see more touches, and players like Llevi Noel and Brian Jones could provide some sneaky value as well.

There’s no way I’m rolling with any Argos this week, though. Not against the Stampeders. Here are my picks for DraftKings CFL daily fantasy football in week 16…

Darian Durant (SSK QB $8,400) – The Riders continue to improve and even though they aren’t mathematically out of the playoffs, making it there is a reach. At this point, players are auditioning for 2017 and are playing for a few extra bucks on their contract. Durant looked like his old self against a banged up Hamilton team in Week 14 throwing for 326 yards, rushing for 15 and adding two touchdowns; one in the air, and one on the ground. Jonathon Jennings and the BC Lions torched the RedBlacks defense a week ago so a Rider offense that’s been revitalized with the return of Curtis Steele could do the same.

John White (EDM RB $7,100) – The Alouettes have been brutal against the run game this year so I’ll take any running back going against Montreal at this point. They haven’t given up less than 85 rushing yards since Week 10 and John White is a man playing for his job. He needs to perform (again) or lose his job (again) to Shakir Bell. White had 26 touches last week so even if the Eskimos give him another 20 touches against Montreal, I like his chances for a repeat performance.

DaVaris Daniels (CGY WR $7,300) – How do you stop the Calgary Stampeders? Answer: you can’t. The Stampeders have thrown for over 300 yards in 11 games this season and in two of the games they didn’t, they threw for 298 and 299. Daniels is averaging over six targets per game and has five touchdowns in the past four weeks. Look for him to keep rolling against a reeling Toronto team.

Caleb Holley (SSK WR $6,500) – Holley has 55 targets in 6 games and is averaging right around 80 yards while managing to stay under the radar in Regina. I guess that’s what happens when you’re on a three win team. I’m pairing Holley with Durant against a vulnerable Ottawa defense.

Terrell Sinkfield Jr. (BC Flex $3,500) – Wally Buono made a brilliant signing by bringing in Sinkfield after the NFL cuts to prepare for the playoff run. Sinkfield has only been with the Lions for two games but he showed what he can do last week with 4 catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. Sinkfield is only getting started in Vancouver and you can’t go wrong for $3,500.
