The Buffalo Bills have signed linebacker Gerald Hodges to a one-year deal. Adding a linebacker who has experience to a rebuilding defense will be low risk/high reward for the Bills. In his career, Hodges has 224 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 3 interceptions.

How will he be used in the defense?

The Bills have a player that should compete for a starting job and should most definitely win one. He can be the Bills weak side linebacker as they still need help at that position. What I like about Hodges is that he is reliable and he may be the player that Lorenzo Alexander was last year; he comes in and makes an immediate impact like Alexander did.

Imagine him, Reggie Ragland and Lorenzo Alexander on the field. I think both Hodges and Alexander are two of the most underrated players in the game and we all know what Ragland is capable of. From the defense that the Bills were last year, Sean McDermott is building it back up.

What can Bills fans expect from Hodges?

Fans will be expecting a competitor to come in and help out the defense. Hodges may not be the best linebacker in the league, or even a top one but he sure as heck is reliable. He’s not a big name but Buffalo doesn’t want big names, they want results and Hodges can be that man.

I think Hodges is an excellent pickup. Having him on a one-year deal is smart for Buffalo. If he does well this year, he could be kept on a long-term deal. If he fails, then the Bills leave him go without spending a ton of money on him. Either way, Buffalo gets themselves a reliable linebacker at a cheap price. Expect Hodges to show up and work his tail off to see playing time.
