When was the last time a name other than Mike Reilly’s topped the CFL quarterback power rankings? It’s been a while, so enjoy the novelty. Mr. Reilly could ascend right back up before very long at all…
1) Matt Nichols, Winnipeg Blue Bombers
At the start of the season, if you had told me Nichols would be ranked no. 1 on this list, I would have thought you were crazy. Over the last 5-6 weeks, though, he has been the most consistent QB in the CFL. For the season, Nichols has thrown 17 TD passes against five interceptions and last week threw three TD passes in a win over Montreal.
2) Bo Levi Mitchell, Calgary Stampeders
Mitchell rebounded from a poor effort in B.C., leading the Stamps to a 23-7 win over the Toronto Argonauts. Mitchell has a 3:1 TD-to-interception ratio on the year.
3) Mike Reilly, Edmonton Eskimos
Reilly has hit the skids over the last two weeks, and while I don’t blame him for the Eskimos’ two-game losing streak, he has not played well. Injuries have decimated the team around Reilly, but if anybody can get this team going back in the right direction it is Reilly.
4) Kevin Glenn, Saskatchewan Roughriders
Glenn is climbing this list quickly; he has been the hottest QB in the league over the last two games and has pulled the Riders into playoff contention. With weapons like Naaman Roosevelt, Cameron Marshall and Duron Carter, Glenn has the players around him to be a very dangerous QB.
5) Trevor Harris, Ottawa Redblacks
I know the Redblacks as a team have underperformed, but Harris has been consistent the entire year, as his 19 TDs against just six interceptions will attest. With Harris at the helm, the Redblacks look ready to go on a winning streak and right their playoff ship.
6) Ricky Ray, Toronto Argonauts
Ray had maybe his worst outing of the year against the Stamps this past week, but with him the Argos have a shot to make the playoffs. Without him, they would be dead in the water.
7) Darian Durant, Montreal Alouettes
Durant and the entire Alouettes team remains hot-and-cold; this lack of consistency is why Durant is so low on this list.
8) Jonathon Jennings and Travis Lulay, B.C.Lions
A close loss to the Redblacks continues the Lions’ bad play as of late. Lulay and Jennings are both talented QBs that just aren’t getting it done right now.
9) Zach Collaros, Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The question now seems how quickly can Collaros get out of Hamilton…
