There comes a point in every CFL season when the injuries start to pile up and we really find out who the best teams in the league are.
Now is that time.

Ricky Ray and Trevor Harris both went down to injury last week and while Ottawa is lucky with 2015’s MOP Henry Burris preparing for a return, Toronto is heading into unknown territory with Logan Kilgore preparing for his first career start. SJ Green, Nick Moore, Kenny Stafford, Nate Coehoorn, Kevin Elliott and Tori Gurley are all key receivers that have suffered injuries too. Who’s going to step up to take their place? The beauty of fantasy football is figuring out exactly that.

Here’s who I’m rolling with in DraftKings’ daily fantasy football this week.

Quarterback Matt Nichols (WPG $7,500) – While it’s true that it’s Matt Nichols’s first start of the season for a subpar Winnipeg team, I just can’t ignore the matchup. The Edmonton Eskimos are giving up 387.5 yards a game through the air and nothing indicates that will change any time soon. Nichols returns to Edmonton looking to beat his former team after the Grey Cup Champs traded him to Winnipeg for a conditional 7th Round pick last September.

Running back Nic Grigsby (OTT $6,300) – Since taking over for the injured Travon Van, Nic Grigsby leads the league with 17 touches per game. Ottawa is running the ball well for the first time since coming back to the league and they’re up against the league’s 6th ranked rushing defense in the Toronto Argonauts. If Logan Kilgore can’t get off to a fast start, Ottawa will be playing with lead  which bodes well for Grigsby’s usage.

Wide receiver Adarius Bowman (EDM $11,000) – He’s expensive but he’s worth it. Bowman leads the league in targets per game (11.8) and receiving yards per game (135.8) and is up against the CFL’s 8th ranked passing defense. Reilly and Bowman should tear the Bombers apart.

Wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt (SSK $8,800) – A star is born. It seems like no matter who is at quarterback for Saskatchewan, the plan is to throw Roosevelt the ball. He’s average 10.5 targets per game and nearly 120 yards. Whether it’s Mitchell Gale or Darian Durant for the Roughriders this week, Roosevelt shouldn’t disappoint.

Flex Weston Dressler (WPG $7,700) – Dressler was targeted fifteen times last game while connecting on twelve of those attempts. I like pairing Nichols and Dressler this week to torch the Eskimo secondary.

Wide receiver Geraldo Boldewijn (BC $3,000) – If you’re looking for a possible home run play this week, look no further than “The Flying Dutchmen”. Boldewijn was cut by the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens before coming to the CFL and starting one game last season where he caught three passes for 64 yards. He’ll get every opportunity to shine this year with Nick Moore’s season-ending ACL injury and Calgary would be wise not to forget about the Dutchmen on Friday night.

Next week gets a whole lot more interesting at the quarterback position as Hamilton’s Zach Collaros eyes a possible return. If he can pick right up where he left off last season, he’s a name you need to keep an eye on.
