1) Anquan Boldin retires
Anquan Boldin, who signed with the Buffalo Bills on August 7. After 13 days, he left the club and informed the team he’s retiring, per the team.ESPN’s Jim Trotter first reported the news.
“We respect Anquan’s decision to retire from the NFL,” Bills GM Brandon Beane said in a statement. “We appreciate the time he gave us over the past two weeks. He is one of the best receivers to play this game and we wish him and his family all the best moving forward.”
He retires following 14 sensational NFL seasons after being drafted in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals in 2003. Anquan Boldin will go down as one of the greatest postseason receivers in NFL history and he teamed up with future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald in Arizona for six seasons.
2) TE Jordan Reed removed from PUP list
Jordan Reed’s toe looks healed enough so that he will be ready in time for next Sunday’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Washington needs Reed back ASAP, as he’s one of the top receiving tight ends in the game. Reed’s toe injury may not sound serious, but it’s an injury that can linger.
3) James Conner impressive in first game with the Steelers
Connor ran for 98 yards on 20 carries, showing great speed and athleticism; he looks like he could provide the Pittsburgh Steelers with a solid backup for Leveon Bell.
4) Trevor Siemian looks to be Broncos’ starter
Siemian entered just before halftime and marched the Denver Broncos offense down the field, completing passes of four, 10 and 19 yards, with the last going to Jordan Taylor for a touchdown. It sounded like that was enough for coach Vance Joseph. Joseph told reporters after the game that selecting his starter before the third preseason game “would be ideal,” per Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post.
