). The Minnesota Vikings defense continues to shake up the top of the NFC power teams. One week after serving up Aaron Rodgers’ worst game in years, Minnesota absolutely destroyed Cam Newton and the Panthers offense in the second half Sunday. They sacked Newton an incredible 8 times! If Sam Bradford stays healthy, this team looks like it will make a deep run come playoff time.
). Trevor Siemian threw 4 Td passes and the Broncos maybe a better team than last year. Siemian can throw the deep ball, which the Broncos lacked last year. If he becomes more consistent on mid range passes the Broncos are going to be a handful to beat.
). Bill Belichick is if not the greatest coach in NFL history, he is definitely in the top 2 or 3. Without Tom Brady the Pats are 3-0 and looking at possibly playing WR Julian Edelman at QB to try to start at 4-0. Anybody beating against Belichick at this point?
). The Philadelphia Eagles are for real! A 34-3 beating of the Steelers proved that. We should have all known that QB Carson Wentz would be special after the Cleveland Browns passed on him.
). The Cowboys’ green rookies looked like veterans in Dallas’ dismantling of the Bears on Sunday night. Led by Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys’ offense moved up and down the field against an overmatched Chicago front with deliberate ease for much of the evening; Dallas held the ball for more than 35 minutes and executed three scoring drives of five-plus minutes. I know it is early, but will we have a QB controversy in Dallas when Romo returns?
). The Jacksonville Jaguars are not going to be this year’s surprise team. They are close, but can’t seem to get over the hump. Will Gus Bradley be fired if the Jags start out 0-4?
). Rex Ryan saved his job for now with a convincing win over the Arizona Cardinals. After a big win, like the one the Bills had over the Cardinals, there is still no better coach at a news conference than Rex Ryan, who opened up about how he feels going into next week’s matchup with New England, saying “I can sit back and say I don’t care who plays quarterback, because Brady ain’t. I don’t care who plays quarterback. Steve Grogan can play quarterback. If Belichick’s playing quarterback, we’re coming after him, I promise you that.”
). The talented roster that the Cardinals may be doomed because of QB Carson Palmer is their QB. Palmer seems to shrivel in big situations and after over a decade I don’t see that changing.
). Carolina’s opening-day loss was no blip. The Panthers lost once again on Sunday, this time to the Vikings, thanks largely to Cam Newton’s three interceptions. Carolina didn’t lose its second game last season until the Super Bowl.
). The Rams scored a touchdown! The Rams scored a touchdown! And then they just kept on scoring. Wow. The football gods were so shocked by the Rams’ offensive explosion they sent a lightning storm with two minutes to go so they could catch their breath.
). The Cincinnati Bengals gave up 5 first downs on penalties alone, which of course is not surprising. The surprising part is Marvin Lewis still has his job, these things have been happening for years and Lewis has done nothing to straighten out the discipline problems on the field.
