When: Saturday, 8:15 p.m. ET (NBC)
Where: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
Line: Rams -6
Nobody expected at the start of this year that the Rams would be hosting a playoff game and most didn’t expect to see the Falcons having to play a road wild card game. On Saturday night this improbable match-up will take place at the historic Memorial Coliseum, and it looks to be an exciting match-up between two explosive teams.
This game will feature last year’s MVP Matt Ryan against the likely MVP winner from this year, Rams running back Todd Gurley. Look for these two men to go a long way in deciding this match-up. Ryan’s vaunted offense has seemed out of synch much of the year while Gurley has led this improbable Rams run.
Goff has to play well and not turn the ball over against a very athletic Falcons defense. For the Falcons, a big game is needed up front from Grady Jarrett. The Falcons need to sit this game squarely on quarterback Jared Goff and if they can do that by slowing down Todd Gurley, the Falcons should win this game.
Special Teams could be the difference
The Rams special teams could decide this game with KR Pharoh Cooper, P Johnny Hekker and K Greg Zuerlein–all Pro Bowlers. Cooper is always a threat to go the distance and Zuerlein has been money for most of his career.
Prediction: Can Todd Gurley have a big day? If he doesn’t, is Goff good enough to lead the Rams to a win? The Falcons have an athletic defense that can contain Gurley and if they do, Jared Goff has to beat them. With all of that info I am going with the more experienced Falcons in a close game here.
Falcons 27 Rams 24
