Zay Jones was the Best Draft Pick for the Buffalo Bills
Right now, Zay Jones provides more value than any other rookie that was drafted by the Buffalo Bills. I’m not saying that the Bills didn’t get players that can provide something, because they did. But there are only two or three players that are projected to start from day one. The Bills have brought in great players and they will be making an impact sooner or later. Nathan Peterman won’t get his chance unless Tyrod goes down or does not come back next year. Both Matt Milano and Tanner Vallejo will most likely be rotational players with the linebacker group.
Cornerback Tre’Davious White was a great addition to a weak secondary but…
He won’t be making plays unless a ball is thrown in his direction. Another projected starter is offensive lineman Dion Dawkins. I think Dawkins can take over the right tackle job, but again, will he be making multiple plays throughout a game? With wide receiver Zay Jones, the Bills pick up a weapon that can make plays on every passing play. He is quick off the line and can get open easily. He may even get the chance to start as the #1 receiver if Sammy Watkins suffers from yet another injury.
I know that professional football is a big jump from college, but Jones has the better case to show that he can provide more than the others. He has the NCAA record of most receptions in a career with 399. He also set the single-season record for most receptions in 2016 with 158, while adding 1,746 yards and eight touchdowns. This kid is big, he is fast, and he can make secondaries suffer. Especially with the Bills lacking at the wide receiver position, bringing in Jones to go along with Sammy Watkins, Andre Holmes, and the rest of their core makes them dangerous.
I’m not saying that the Bills didn’t make a great move by drafting Tre’Davious White in the first round. I actually believe that defense was the biggest need for the Bills in this draft. Zay Jones was the better draft pick though. Not only does he fill a need for the weak receiving core, but he is more of a threat to teams rather than Tre’Davious White. The Buffalo offense has been a running offense for a long time, now it’s time to bring the passing game up.
