A Hot Start in Mile High and Trouble in Baltimore
Happy Memorial Day, everyone. Hope you all stay safe and take some time to reflect on what the real reason behind this long weekend truly is. As 2 prior serviceman in the US Army, Chris and I want to extend out heartfelt thanks and condolences to every military family past, present, and yet to come who will have to endure the pain of a loved one paying the ultimate sacrifice.
Chip Caray, the play-by-play voice of the Atlanta Braves, leads off for us this week. Our first guest we had on the show, as we continue to celebrate our 1 year anniversary of Out of Left Field, Chip tells us how the Braves can manage without Freddie Freeman, what the arrival of Matt Adams means to this ball club, and we discuss a very poignant interview he did with centerfielder Ender Inciarte and former catcher Eddie Perez about the struggles and concerns happening in their home country of Venezuela.
The Colorado Rockies are off to a hot start that nobody could have predicted, and as of May 26, they were 1 of 2 teams that had reached the 30 win mark. Now, 3 teams in the NL West have reached that. Who would have pictured being a 30 game winner 2 months into the season was not enough to solidify an early 1st place spot in a division? The big question is how are the Rockies doing this and can they keep it together down the stretch of a grueling 100+ games left?
Finally, speaking of the team from Mile High, the Baltimore Orioles reassigned former Colorado Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jiminez to the bullpen this past weekend after a terrible start to his season. The Orioles are on a steep skid and it is starting to bring back memories of the Chicago White Sox of 2016. Can the Birds get right and keep the flock pointed toward October?
All that plus the Backstop of the Week and you do not want to miss this week’s Behind the Mask on Out of Left Field with Chris and Graham.
