Excellent point. The process is flawed when men like Joe Klecko aren’t in the hall of fame simply because Gary Myers of the Daily news lacked the wherewithal to present a three position Pro bowler properly.

One must evaluate what exactly Joe Namath accomplished as a whole. First to pass for 4000 yards etc. But that Super Bowl III win not only put the AFL on the map but forced the merger of the NFL-AFL
Vince Lombardi famously disliked the AFL and considered them as an inferior League to the NFL.
Super Bowl III changed the game as we know it without Namath throwing a pass in the fourth quarter. Lombardi retired.
