*Now* we’re in the thick of it – and by “it”, we’re talking Football Season. As high schools and colleges around the US gear up for homecoming games while the NFL kicks off on Thursday with a rematch of Super Bowl 50, the Canadian Football League enters Phase II of its 20-week regular season.
The CFL roared up to its halfway point last weekend with a five-game slate culminating in what our friends to the North know as the “Labour Day Classics.” In this week’s episode of the Rouge, White & Blue CFL Podcast, co-hosts Joe Pritchard and Os Davis pick apart the smorgasbord of gridiron the CFL served up last week.
We goggle at Solomon Elimimian and that monstrous BC Lions defense; we marvel at the mastery of Bo Levi Mitchell and his Calgary Stampeders; we attempt to quantify the perhaps too-good-to-be-true recent success of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers; and wonder at the bizarre inability of those potentially dominant Hamilton Tiger-Cats to string together four quarters of top-drawer play.
And, as card-carrying Americans, Joe and Os are ready and willing to talk conspiracy theories and bad refereeing, specifically as they relate to – you’ll never believe this – the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Spoiler: We’re slightly skeptical of Riders’ fans’ excuses for what is (let’s face it), the 2016 CFL’s most underwhelming club.
Joe and Os also take shots at picking week 12’s slate of games. Note that, having been psychologically coerced by a certain host of another certain CFL podcast hosted here at The Grueling Truth, Os has changed his mind on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats-Toronto Argonauts game.
Thanks for listening, and we’ll talk to you next week!
